Gordon Dominates In Phoenix, Ends Winless Streak

Jeff Gordon dominated the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in Phoenix Sunday, ending a 66 race winless streak.

Gordon passed Kyle Busch on lap 305 of the 312 lap Subway Fresh Fit 500 to earn his 83rd career Sprint Cup victory. Busch was looking for the weekend sweep after winning the NASCAR Camping World Truck and Nationwide Series races earlier in the week.

Busch was followed across the finish line by five-time reigning champion Jimmie Johnson, Kevin Harvick and Ryan Newman.

The early parts of the race had a similar theme to Daytona, lots of wrecks.

Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne crashed on lap 50, ending his bid for back-to-back victories.

Bush and pole sitter Carl Edwards were involved in a controversial wreck on lap 59. Busch made a hard left hand turn into Edwards, sending him into the infield and ending his day.

The restart on lap 67 had a 13 car pile up that was started when Brian Vickers lost control of his car with assistance from Matt Kenseth.

The racing settled down considerably after the pileup and saw a number of leaders including Newman, Johnson and Tony Stewart.

The last restart occurred on lap 290 with Busch taking the lead over Stewart, who only took two tires to gain better track position.

The win earned Gordon a tie with
Cale Yarborough for fifth place on NASCAR's all time win list.

The Sprint Cup Series continues next week at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
